Installation Information

When can I get an installation?

You can schedule your install once construction is 100% complete in your area. If you are a Tachus VIP, you will receive an email as soon as your address is ready for install. If you are not a Tachus VIP, be sure to regularly check your address at TACHUS.COM

What is your installation process?

The install process consists of two steps. The first step is where a technician will run a fiber-optic cable from the flowerpot (in the front yard) up to the utility side of your house (unless otherwise specified). This step usually happens before your scheduled installation and does not require the homeowner to be present. The second step is your scheduled install of a modem and Wi-Fi device. This step requires someone over 18 to be present for the scheduled time.

How do you get the fiber to my home?

First, we need to be safe dig partners, so we call 811 to get existing utilities located and marked. Our construction vendors will contact Texas 811 to help find and mark existing underground utility lines with flags and paint. In addition to flags, water-based paint is used by 811 so it will wash away after a short time. All other flag colors are Class B utilities. Our crews use directional boring, which is minimally invasive, leaving the ground’s surface undisturbed. The directional drill is used to place green conduit in the ground along the right-of-way of each street to which we plan to bring our service. Conduit is placed in the ground to create a protected path for the Fiber.Sometimes, contractors will dig a hole in the yard called a pothole. This is a temporary hole we use to cross other utility lines safely. A tarp is used to protect the grass and the holes are backfilled daily for safety. All restorations will be made when construction on your street is complete. If you have any issues OPEN A TICKET by calling 832.791.1100, emailing us at [email protected], or visiting tachus.com/contact. Because our crews use directional boring to install the conduit, the effect their work has on the terrain is minimally invasive, leaving the ground’s surface undisturbed. This process also involves installing a small, buried access hatch, called a flowerpot, in front of each home. A flowerpot is a small, buried access hatch similar to a round sprinkler valve box in front of each home. These access points are green and flush with the ground to be as minimally invasive as possible. They are accessed during customer installation which brings blazing-fast fiber internet to your home. The final phase of construction is when we work behind the scenes and bring the Fiber to your neighborhood. You may now see Fiber pullers using the flowerpot access points to pull the Fiber down your street. Once the Fiber is spliced and tested, it is then connected back to the Tachus cabinet which will prepare for connectivity to your home. All that waiting is about to pay off because you’ll soon be ready to schedule your installation of lightning-fast internet to your home! If you registered early as a VIP, we reach out to you by email to schedule a window for your home installation. From there, one of our technicians brings the Fiber into your home.

Do I need to be home for my installation?

Yes, someone over the age of 18 must be present.

Equipment

What is the difference between the Internet and WiFi?

While “Wi-Fi” and “internet” are often used interchangeably, they are two separate things. The internet is a global network that connects your household to the rest of the world online. Wi-Fi is a local wireless network that connects your devices to the internet. Want to learn how Wi-Fi works with the internet? Check out our blog here!

What is the difference between a modem and a router?

A fiber modem connects to the fiber cable, translating the high-speed signal into data your devices use to connect to the internet. A fiber router utilizes this signal from your modem to create a wireless connection throughout your home, providing blazing-fast speeds to stream, game and connect online.

Can I use my own modem?

No, unfortunately, you can’t provide your own. Tachus will supply and set up a fiber optic modem during your installation.

Can I use my own router?

Yes, you can provide your own fiber-compatible router.
